Training Leaders, taking Action
Leadership Training
We train and develop members of congregations who desire to organize their communities and church members around issues of social justice affecting them and their communities.
PUBLIC ACTION
We have held listening sessions at churches, knocked on thousands of doors, spoken to residents and hosted several National Night Out in Grove Hall engaging in conversations specifically around CORI reform. As a result we were able to host a Public Action in June 2020 highlighting our research. Through this outreach, we learned that many people in our community are given initial warrants through traffic violations which then turn into a CORI (Criminal record).
For the past three summers Prophetic Resistance Boston Leaders have hosted grassroot CORI Sealings in Boston neighborhoods that are highly impacted by violence in Grove Hall and Nubian Square. During the Summer of 2023 in addition Nubian Square and Grove Hall neighborhoods we will be hosting CORI Sealing Clinics at several Boston barbershops.
We are currently organizing for a Black Lobby Day Spring 2023 to speak with Legislators at the State House around the Automatic CORI sealing bill.
BUILDING RELATIONSHIPS
We are building a relationship with Suffolk County District Attorney Hayden and he has agreed to continue the work that former DA Rachel Rollins left off building a structure for Sanctuary Warrant clinics, that will allow for Boston residents to attend a court session by video in a church to clear their low lying warrants. By providing this service in a church, it means that participants will be safe from arrest as they clear their warrants.
